The Canopus Mission

Canopus Water Technologies Inc. develops and manufactures non-chemical water disinfection systems for residential, industrial, and commercial applications. Our mission is water safety, without the use of additional chemicals. Canopus brings innovative technologies to an industry in a dire need of change. Chlorination is currently one of the primary ways water gets disinfected in this country. Chlorine combined with the organic material present in water can create harmful by-products, such as Chloroform, Bromoform, and/or trihalomethanes.

We can no longer rely on the purity of water once it leaves a treatment facility, due to old and decaying water delivery systems across the nation. Canopus is committed to making technology serve people and businesses by safely and non-chemically disinfecting water to the highest quality standards as listed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Sanitation Foundation and the Water Quality Association.

Canopus Expertise

Canopus was founded by Souheil Benzerrouk, President & CEO. In March 2016, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported that samples from the Merrimack Water District had Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) levels that were up 90 parts per trillion. These levels are higher than the recommended federal standard of a maximum of 70 parts per trillion. Soon after, many towns in the surrounding area reported similar findings and issued a water use advisory with remedial action and the provision for alternate drinking water. In 2017, there were several outbreaks of Legionella and E. coli bacteria in several towns in New Hampshire.

The news surprised Souheil, who resided with his family in Hudson. He thought New Hampshire was one of the cleanest states in the nation. He began researching water quality, and he discovered the aging water treatment and water delivery infrastructure across the country. Souheil realized not enough was being done to make water safe for use in homes and businesses, which is why he formed Canopus. His belief is water safety should be addressed without compromise and without chemicals.

Canopus is a team of passionate engineers and scientists with backgrounds in industries such as water treatment, semiconductor, power and energy and medical. Based near Boston, we also have access to the most talented engineers in the industry and the best academics. Canopus is committed to bringing the most advanced technologies to a market in dire need for innovation, due to the aging infrastructure of water delivery systems.

Water disinfection is the most critical step in the treatment process. Canopus is looking at applications beyond water disinfection, such as the destruction of photosensitive pollutants found in contaminated source water.
